Tintops took the first three outright
positions at the Jimna High Country Enduro, Round 3 of the
Queensland Off Road Series which was held over the weekend
of 25th and 26th of April. Tintops in the first three
positions is not a regular occurrence in Off Road Racing.
After the trip home across the Nullarbor to
sunny Queensland from a mixed assault on the ARB Pinjarra
Engineering Hyden 450 at Easter the Chapman Off Road Team
spent time sorting out a few teething problems with the
Rob's new Pajero and isolated and fixed the electrical fault
with the Triton that put an end Clayton in the last section
at Hyden in readiness for the Jimna High Country Enduro.
The Jimna High Country Enduro consisted of 4
sections of 2 laps of a 25km course that took in some of the
roughest and most technical off road terrain. There was only
a couple of fast open sections splitting up the tight
mountainous and heavily treed parts of the course.
At the conclusion of the first section it
was Robert Chapman in the new Pajero who led the Extreme 4WD
class and a credible 3rd outright. Son, Clayton in his
Triton was close behind in 4th outright and the leader in
the Production 4WD class.
During section 2, Robert had front drive
shaft problems which meant that he was now competing in two
wheel drive which made the Pajero a bit of a handful to
drive. However Robert rose to the occasion and was able to
retain 3rd outright with Clayton retaining 4th place.
Section 3 saw Clayton suffer from a flat
tyre. After a quick race change and being passed by three
other competitors Clayton was back in the race. Clayton
drove the wheels off the Triton catching and passing two of
the three competitors.
This meant that Clayton was now only 30
seconds in front of his other Production 4WD class
competitor Michael Topfer and running 3rd outright. Another
consistent and trouble free run for the section and with a
buggy pulling out of the race, Robert Chapman was now 2nd
outright.
The fourth and final section of the enduro
saw another one of the front running buggies out with
mechanical issues which then moved Robert and Ross in the
Pajero up into 1st outright and Clayton and Adam in the
Triton into 2nd outright position. With Michael and Linda Topfer in their SWB Pajero finishing in 3rd outright
position this meant that Tin Tops finished first, second and
third. Also the third Chapmans car, the lady powered Pajero
of Leila Chapman and navigator Melissa Huxstep finished
second in Extreme 4WD, and 6th outright in this gruelling
event.
The Chapman Off Road Team are now back in the workshop
checking and preparing the Pajero and Triton for the next
round of the 2009 Australian Off Road Championship, the
Tattersall's Finke Desert Race to be held at Alice Springs
(NT) over the Queen's Birthday weekend in June.
