2009 Teagle, ARB Pines Enduro, Millicent
SA:
5-6/9/2009
The Chapmans
Offroad Team travelled to Millicent SA, to compete in the
fourth round of the AORC, (Australian Offroad Racing
Championship). Saturday first off was a reconnaissance,
giving the teams a look at the track. Then came the
prologue, to set the start order for Sundays main event. Rob
and Ross in the Extreme 4WD class Pajero placed third in
class, Clayton and Adam in the Production 4WD class Triton
placed first in class. The last event for the day was the
Dash for Cash, where the top four for each class would start
side by side and race around a modified course in front of
the crowd. Both Robert and Clayton finished second in their
classes.
Sunday was the main event with 400Km of
racing to be completed. The track consisted of mainly sandy
loam with some black mud, rocks and tree roots in there as
well. The weather was fine for the beginning, then shortly
after the first section the rain set in, although not heavy
certainly enough to change track conditions considerably and
to be thankful for having a windscreen. Without dust the
track was great for passing and close racing. By the end of
the day
the track that started out looking
like a smooth forestry trail, ended up with meter deep
whoops through the corners and motocross style braking and
accelerating bumps in out of the corners. These as well as
bash plate rubbing ruts made finishing each lap as much as
an accomplishment as winning.
Once all the
racing was finished it was a great result for the whole team
with both cars finishing, Robert and Ross finished third in
class and 15th outright. Clayton and Adam placed first in
class and 20th outright. With no obvious damage to the
vehicles it's back to the shed for some well needed maintenance, before the fifth and final round at
Goondiwindi Qld on the 17-18 of October.
