 2009 Hyden 450:

The first round of the Australian Offroad Racing Championship was held at Hyden in WA over the Easter long weekend at the Smithy's Place complex. Robert and Clayton both make the big trip across from Queensland to the race.

Unfortunately for Robert, he broke a front drive shaft on the start line of prologue, leaving him in two wheel drive for the rest of the event, although he had this disadvantage he still managed to come in with a time that put him in 5th position out of eleven in his class.

Clayton was the second car out for prologue and came in with first in class.

First heat on Saturday was a run into the township of Hyden, where competitors would have a rest then race back to the complex. Because of Roberts slower than usual prologue time he had to pass some slower buggies, on the fast road section his gearbox jammed in neutral, so he had to fix this problem by the road to finish the stage last in class, Clayton however had a good run placing first in class.

The run back to Smithy's Place was cancelled due to a massive crash.

Heat 2 & 3 on Sunday consisted of 2 single laps of a 42Km loop. During heat 2 Robert made his way up to 7th in class by passing many cars and buggies. Clayton had some electrical issues with the Triton having to fix it out on track and just make it back, still first in class. Heat 3 saw Robert get to 3rd in class, unfortunately Clayton did not finish because of electrical issues, but with previous good time was able to finish 2nd in class.

Chapmans Offroad Racing thanks it's sponsors for their ongoing support, without them doing what we do wouldn't be possible.
